Manor House has been preparing to join the captive-breeding programme for the White Rhinocerous (Ceratotherium simum).

We'll be taking in young males and bringing them on to sexual maturity, then they'll travel on to mate with mature females. This important work ensures good blood-lines for rhino which will eventually re released to the wild.

The White or 'square-lipped' rhino hails from the world's second largest continent, Africa. It makes up around 20% of the earth’s land mass... and is home to ecosystems of great variety from hot deserts to tropical rainforests.

About half of Africa (approx five million square miles) is covered with grassland (also called savanna). This is where you'll see rhino - they wander the savanna and are to be found near water holes, mud wallows and tree shade.
